"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

It is actually quite sad that in our culture two heterosexual men cannot hold hands. Why does it have to follow that if two men are holding hands that they are automatically 'gay'?

This is exactly why men are afraid to show affection toward one another - they wil be considered 'gay' - which is considered 'bad'...

Our whole cultural definition of what makes a male 'manly' needs to be really looked at again...but when will that happen? Most females are just as against the idea as most males are.

Just some thoughts provoked by your post :)

Well, a large part in people thinking that way about same-sexn relationships is because, basically, we have sexual organs for reproduction, and we can't do that with a person of the same sex.

There are religious aspects to this, but I won't discuss those because I don't care that much. If somebody grew up as a religious person, they have every reason to believe that being gay is wrong. *shrug* It's their opinion, and I respect it.

As to why two heterosexual men won't hold hands... well, I tend to lok at people holding hands as them being in a relationship, no matter their sex. And yes, I would look at two guys holding hands as them being gay, or at least bi. But that's pretty much all of it :) What they do is their business.

If this shows up twice, I blame my connection.

Well, I deleted them. Only one left now :)

Sorry about the mess, my internet was acting up, and I kept getting errors when trying to post this.

That's okay. I see now that it was indeed an LJ error thing. :)

It's depressing to think that homosexuals aren't really free to do what they like because they're being judged all the time.

We do think of men holding hands as 'gay' instinctively because of the world we grew up with. Other cultures are different -- in the Arabic world, two men holding hands is a sign of friendship, etc.
